Abstract

Submitted to the 2021 Book of Mormon Central Art Contest.

A symbolic representation of Joseph Smith's First Vision, made using a combination of drawing and decoupage on a painted canvas.

The piece depicts Satan (as a broken snake) being cast out of the Sacred Grove by a heavenly force (which the artist believes was Heavenly Mother).

Joseph is shown as an eye peering through a keyhole (showing Joseph just beginning to peek through the keyhole of heaven in pursuit of knowledge).

Jesus is represented by a Cross, for his sacrifice, and God by the All Seeing Eye.

This artist's body of work focuses on faith, humor, and struggles with mental health. The artist has built and utilizes a 'library of symbols' to assist them in communicating complex ideas.
