Chapter I

The author discusses some of her motivation in writing this booklet, to "throw more light upon [plural marriage], and to show forth the foolishness an inconsistency of those who hold it up as a 'foul stain that pollutes the very soil where it exists.'" As part of this chapter, she includes a selection of correspondence with a non- Latter-day Saint from Alabama who was intrigued by the teachings of the Church and had reason to believe the Restored Gospel as taught by the "Mormons" to be true, but was reluctant to be baptized.
