"And they did also carry with them deseret, which, by interpretation, is a honey bee"
Ether 2:3

When the Jaredites traveled to the Americas, they brought "with them deseret, which, by interpretation, is a honey bee” (Ether 2:3). Hugh Nibley proposed a possible Egyptian explanation for the origins of this word. Kevin Barney alternatively suggested deseret is connected to the Hebrew word for bee "deborah". While we may never know the exact meaning, these possibilities provide plausible explanations and evidences to the term deseret.
