The Hidden Temple in Creation
Heaven's Code: Temples and Texts | Episode 2 | 14 min
The Genesis Creation story is primarily about God organizing a cosmic temple, rather than the mechanics of material creation. The story of Adam and Eve is presented as a grander story of divine purpose, representing a journey from God's presence in a premortal state to a fall into mortality and an ultimate return. Genesis chapters 2 and 3 provide more detail about the holy place of the cosmic temple. The creation of Adam and Eve is reinterpreted with deeper symbolism. Adam's creation from dust and being placed into a deep sleep are images associated with cursing and death, representing all mankind. Eve's introduction allows Adam to "awake" from his deep sleep and "arise" from the dust. Eve is seen as a type of Christ who brings life and is a "help meet" for Adam in his desperate situation.
However, the roles reverse during the Fall:Eve, beguiled by the serpent, partakes of the fruit and is cast out into mortality, symbolizing all mankind who are beguiled by Lucifer and must die. Adam must choose to fall and die with her or remain alone in the garden with Eve suffering damnation. Adam willingly gives his life so that Christ could be born, thus bringing salvation to Eve.
Together, Adam and Eve exemplify the salvation Christ brings to all, and are depicted as both beings subject to cursing and death and saviors to each other. It's also important to recognize a warning of "imitation temples" and false worship. Cain's story is constructed to follow the pattern of a temple centered on a false son of God. Cain makes an offering at an altar (a temple courtyard practice) and then later enters into a covenant (an interior temple practice), but because he is following a false "son of God" and uses his covenant to do wickedness, his temple practices are rejected by God.
The video concludes that creation is a temple that humanity steps through, and humans are invited to return to God's presence. Humanity must struggle to discern between the true temples that lead upward and the false temples that cannot save. Dr. John Thompson testifies that Jesus Christ is the true Son of God and that His church, kingdom, and temples have continually been established, where the true path is kept and revealed.
