RESOURCES FOR CELEBRATING THE EASTER SEASON

PURPOSE: Just as during the Christmas season our activities have Christmas elements, the same can be true with activities during the Easter Season. The goal is to create worshipful, Christ-centered experiences during the Easter season that deepen faith in Jesus Christ and familiarize us with the sacred events.

Activities Indirectly Connected to Easter Themes

Goal: Activities are not just attended, but are worshipful and participatory, helping individuals and families deepen faith in Jesus Christ and remember and love Him throughout the Easter season.

Physical & Experiential

  • Walk or hike with reflection: (Goes with the 2026 youth theme “Walk with me”)
    • Road to Emmaus (about 7 miles) Luke 24; discuss lesson learned from this account
    • Jericho to Jerusalem (about 18 miles; Jesus went from healing a blind man in Jericho to the Triumphal Entry entering the city of Jerusalem and ending at the temple)

Family History & Missionary Work

  • Family history / temple service  D&C 138:27, 30 1 Peter 3:18-20; Temple service matters because Jesus was resurrected and we all will be resurrected.
  • Missionary-focused activities *Matt. 28:16–20 (“Go and teach all nations baptizing them…”)* It is the commandment from the risen Savior to his disciples to go tell people the good news.

Gathering/Fireside

  • Could be led by full-time missionaries; talk about teachings of the Savior; Youth invited to bring friends; Focus on the Savior’s final days, Atoning Sacrifice and Glorious Resurrection
  • For ideas for specific days of Holy week see that day's section below: Palm Sunday event; Good Friday event; Thursday, Last Supper commemoration; Wednesday, Woman showing adoration days before his burial. Although the events happened during Holy Week, commemorations of these events could also happen outside of Holy Week.

Service & Love for the Savior

  • Do something that demonstrates your love of the Savior, like the love exemplified by the woman in Mark 14:3-9, days before his burial. She poured perfume on Jesus Mark 14:3–9; She asked “what can I give to the Savior” not “what can I get from Him;” she acted out of sacrifice and adoration for the Savior. What can we do to show our love for Him?  Jesus asked us to remember her and her actions.
  • Also inspired by teachings the last week of his life: Matthew 25:34-40 “inasmuch as you have done it to the least of these you have done it to me.” and teachings from the Last Supper: Jesus teaches service John 13:12–17 & “As I have loved you love one another.” Use JustServe.org for local service ideas
  • Memorize/display/decorate portions of “The Living Christ”

Misc skills

  • Yard work, pruning / gardening John 15 (“I am the vine”)
  • Cooking activities (Mediterranean foods, lentil soup, pita bread, grape juice) to prepare for a Last Supper commemoration
