Why would Lehi have a knowledge of the Egyptian language?

Some early readers of the Book of Mormon claimed that it would have been unlikely for an Israelite like Lehi to be familiar with the Egyptian language. It is now known that cultural ties between Egyptian and Israel were closer than previously thought and that by the time of Lehi scribes were being trained in both Hebrew and Egyptian Writing systems.
