Early Life and Education

Born on June 29, 1969, in Baltimore, Maryland, President Timothy Lowell Farnes is the son of Lowell and Janne Farnes. He served a full-time mission in the Brazil Porto Alegre Mission, where he developed a lifelong love for the Brazilian people and the Portuguese language.1 

He attended Brigham Young University, where he studied Economics. He married Linsey Lucas in the Salt Lake Temple in 1992. They are the parents of five children.2 

Professional Career

President Farnes’s professional life spans a variety of industries and work3 :

  • He has founded and led multiple companies across several industries, including health and wellness, real estate, and media.

  • At the time of his call, he was a self-employed investor and adviser.4 

  • He is the founder of a humanitarian nonprofit organization that operates in Ghana, Africa.5 

Recent teachings

In a December 2025 BYU-Idaho commencement address, President Farnes discussed being a second-mile disciple, saying, "A believer or follower might go with someone who compels them to walk a mile. But a disciple of Jesus Christ goes the second mile."

He invited those in attendance to became stronger disciples of Christ:

"I invite you, in the Savior’s holy name, to become second-mile disciples of Jesus Christ. In the words of the Book of Mormon, “Come unto Christ … and offer your whole [soul]” to Him. I testify that this is the secret to a life of joy and discipleship!"6
