One Powerful Way To "Root Ourselves in Christ": Come Follow Me Video

October 16, 2019

In Colossians 2:7, Pauls asks us to be "Rooted and built up in [Christ]." Check out this new video about one powerful way we can be rooted in Christ to overcome lifes challenges. This video is the first of our new Come Follow Me Lesson series.

This week’s Come Follow Me lesson mentions being rooted in Jesus Christ. Paul says in Colossians,

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith” (Colossians 2:7)

We all have our own personal struggles, trials and temptations. But by rooting ourselves in Christ, we can find strength and hope through our problems.

The lesson points to a verse in the Book of Helaman that helps describe this (Helaman 5:12). Despite all the mighty whirlwinds, hail and storms of life, they cannot drag us down—because Christ is our sure foundation, a foundation that cannot fall.

I want to point out one important way that we can root ourselves in Christ.

The lesson mentions a talk by Elder Neil L. Anderson, where he says that a “powerful protection from the whirlwinds of life is the Book of Mormon.”

How does the Book of Mormon root us in Christ? I saw a neat experiment where members asked strangers on the street to highlight references to Christ or God in the Book of Mormon. And many of them were astonished about how many pages actually did this.

There are over 100 different names for Christ in the Book of Mormon and about 90% of its pages refer to Him in some way. The ScripturePlus app has references to God highlighted, and you quickly see how full the Book of Mormon is of Christ.

So basically, if you’re reading the Book of Mormon daily, then you are coming to Christ daily. And rooting yourself on His sure foundation, against life’s whirlwinds.

President Russell M. Nelson once said, “I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day”
