Early Life and Family
Eduardo Francisco Ortega was born July 10, 1977, in Godoy Cruz in Mendoza, Argentina. He was raised in a family deeply committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ. His parents devoted much of their lives to Church service, and their example of discipleship shaped his faith from an early age.1
His family’s connection to the Church stretches back several generations. His grandparents were among the earliest converts to the Church in Mendoza during the 1950s, when only a small number of Latter-day Saints lived in the region. Over time, that small beginning grew into multiple stakes and eventually a temple in the area.2
As a young man, Elder Ortega served as a full-time missionary in the Colombia Cali Mission. His missionary service strengthened his testimony of Jesus Christ and gave him a deep love for sharing the gospel with others.3
After his mission, he became acquainted with Gabriela Alejandra Cappi Franzia. Their friendship developed into a long-distance relationship before they were married on September 13, 2002, in the Montevideo Uruguay Temple. Together they built a family centered on faith and service and later became the parents of three children.4
Education and Professional Life
Elder Ortega pursued higher education in architecture and business. He earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from John F. Kennedy University in Argentina in 2008 and later completed a master’s degree in real estate business at University of Belgrano in 2016. In 2017 he also completed a leadership diploma from Harvard Business School.5
Throughout his professional career, Elder Ortega worked in construction and real estate leadership roles. He served as a construction project manager for several companies, including SBS Co. and Village Roadshow Co. Later he became real estate director for American Express in 2014.6
In addition to his professional responsibilities, he also served as a board member for ArchRoyale Projects Limited in 2023 and for CoreNet Global in 2024.7
Church Service and Leadership
Over the years, Elder Ortega served in a variety of leadership callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His service included roles as elders quorum president, bishopric counselor, bishop, and counselor in a stake presidency.
He later served as an Area Seventy in the Mexico Area, where he helped strengthen congregations and support local leaders across the region.8
In April 2025 general conference, Elder Ortega was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of the Church. In this calling he began full-time service assisting the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in building up the Church and preaching the gospel throughout the world.9
Today, Elder Ortega serves as a General Authority Seventy, traveling, teaching, and ministering to Church members across the globe. He shared with Church News his feelings of being able to serve.
“I have felt the Lord serving beside me many times, in many callings, because it’s His vineyard, not ours.”10
