Abstract
A short historical essay on Clay County, Missouri, which occupies an important place in Latter-day Saint history due to settlements there, as well as events in the Mormon- Missouri War of 1838. Especially prominent is Liberty Jail in the county seat, where Joseph Smith and a number of other Church leaders would be imprisoned from November 1838 to April 1839.
