Abstract

The command of Jesus in 3 Nephi 12:48 to be perfect may become easier to understand when viewed in its context. Both the Hebrew and Greek words for perfect can sometimes be connected to covenants, and a careful examination of both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and a comparison with the Book of Mormon, shows that God was asking us to covenant to be devoted to Him, as He is devoted to us.
