Remember No More - Alma 36

This piece received an Honorable Mention in the 2019 Book of Mormon Central Art Contest. 

In order to match the juxtaposition Alma uses between being racked with eternal torment and being filled with a greater light and joy, I intentionally separated the painting into two seperate, but equal parts; the dark and the light. The left side is dark and only having sporadic and organic paint splatters that drip and smear to replicate the primitive and miserable nature of Alma’s suffering and guilt. In contrast, the right side is lit. Although it isn’t spotless, the upward brush strokes are organized and move towards heaven. Alma was not perfect after his repentance, and he would have come away from the process more humble and aware of his flaws. But just as Moroni tells in Ether 12:27, it is the imperfections and spots that point and direct towards strengths and towards God. This is represented in the painting by the upward brush strokes directing attention up.
