Abstract
Submitted to the 2021 Book of Mormon Central Art Contest.
Main Street in Palmyra, New York, with the Grandin Building in the forefront. The architecture of the street was captivating to me as a lover of the Urban Sketch art form. This is a technique that begins with pen or ink, roughly drawing the basic shapes of buildings, and then adding watercolor. Pen is used to complete finer details after drying. Having visited Palmyra a few years ago, I fell in love with the countryside and the small-town feeling, so this scene was a natural for me to try to capture.
The artist grew up in Wyoming, surrounded by mountains, farmland, and family. After years of folk art and acrylics, she began using watercolor four years ago during some trials her family was going through. The act of putting water to paper and paint to water continues to be a healing practice. She paints in Taylorsville, where she lives with her husband, and loves visits from her three daughters and six grandchildren.
