Abstract

Many years ago Moses declared to gathered Israel, “Love the Lord your God, and . . . serve him with all your heart and with all your soul'' (Deuteronomy 1 1:13). Since this declaration, many rulers of the house of Israel have vacillated in their love of and service to the Lord. Yet there was one Israelite king who obediently lived this ancient command. His name was Benjamin, king over the land of Zarahemla in ancient America in the second century B.C. Unfortunately, we know little about King Benjamin’s reign except the last part, which is recorded in the hook of Mosiah. That part radiates with the brightness, hope, and love of a righteous Christian king. His example is an ensign to rulers and a beacon to all disciples of Christ. My purpose in this paper is to share understanding and insight into the significance King Benjamin placed on the mysteries of God and service and to show how these concepts are interrelated.
